Overview of the Incident Accident Management System
This Incident Accident Management System was designed around the new changes in the Guidelines to Surveyors regarding accidents. It provides a Systems Approach to addressing incidents and accidents. You can view the definitions of Hazard, Risk, and Supervision as defined by the Guidelines right on the screen.
My favorite part is the Resident Log and the Resident Study. I take these with me to Falls Committee Meetings. These reports give you a historical view of incidents for the resident, charts to help you evaluate the root cause of the incidents, and information to assist in developing interventions to prevent re-occurrences.
This system is easy to use for QAA Meetings. The information entered is displayed in various reports and charts to help you identify facility problems. Time of Day, Day of Week, Activity at Time of Incident, Location of Incident, Shift, Unit are just a few of the many reports and charts that can be printed and reviewed at QAA Meetings. This system is very, very flexible. After evaluating reports and charts, it is much easier to develop a plan of action to resolve facility problems.
The system includes an optional notification process allowing you to print a report which can be used to notify the appropriate individuals about required tasks to be completed to prevent re-occurrence of the incident. Communication is very important when it comes to hazard identification, resident risks, and interventions.
After you have tried this system, you will never, ever want to return to a manual system.
